It was inhabited by all the Free peoples of Middle-earth, being the location of many of the most important events of the Second and Third Ages. Dol Guldurĭol Guldur, also known as the Hill of Dark Sorcery, was Sauron’s stronghold and base of operations while secretly regaining his power as “The Necromancer”. The War of Wrath at the end of the First Age brought the destruction of the entire continent (except Lindon), and its descent into the sea. The root of the word, Beler or Balar, is believed to refer to the Maia Ossë, who often dwelt at the shores of Balar. ArnorĪrnor, also known as the Northern Kingdom, was a kingdom of men located in the land of Eriador in Middle-earth. The land was known in part for its cold and snowy weather. AngmarĪngmar was a realm established in TA 1300 by the Lord of the Nazgûl later called the “Witch-king of Angmar” – located in a northern fork in the western Misty Mountains, and founded with the sole purpose of weakening the northern realm of Arnor.
